Melbourne Cup. A time when ladies dress up in their best party frocks and fascinators and gentlemen fasten a tie and suit jacket and head to Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse.
Unfortunately I am not in Melbourne this year, however the buzz is still very much alive in every home, workplace, university, fashion store and restaurant in the city of Brisbane. My social pages have been flooded with pictures of ladies in their headpieces and men cheering on the Cup with a couple of beers. What I am looking forward to most are the much loved posts from every eager risk-taker about their winnings and losings. Let’s hope I am in with the winners this year.
I am lucky enough to be off work today so I have had my hands in the kitchen all morning, baking up a storm for a Melbourne Cup celebration at home. On the menu this year I have chosen to make baby vegetable and lentil party pies with potato tops. For those who need some sort of meat, I made a quick batch of cheese and bacon pastry twists. Just to top off the savory treats, I couldn’t resist making a raspberry, walnut and dark chocolate brownie cake along with a delicious jug of raspberry, turkish delight and meringue iced tea.
All this talk of food is making me hungry! I cannot wait until the race starts and our party can start enjoying some delectable nibbles with the much anticipated Melbourne Cup. Good luck to everyone who made a bet, I will be checking in to see the winners later!
