Any Friend Of The Gingerbread Man Is A Friend Of Mine

This year it is the gingerbread man who has taken centre stage in festive stores and the homes of many boys and girls from around the world. The always-loved, soft or hard, sweet or spiced, sugary cookie has become a decorative delight for the christmas tree.

The lonely gingerbread baby from the cherished children’s storybook ‘Gingerbread Friends’ (by Jan Brett) who set out to find friends in a bakery has now found many in Brisbane’s 2013 Myer Christmas Windows. With a QR code on every window, Myer’s technological expansion means the gingerbread’s friends can truly connect.

On Saturday night I wandered by this family tradition for all and watched the excited faces from people big and small. iPhones and video camera’s were in full use by gingerbread fans, namely by businessmen, shoppers and couples holding hands. A few children stood out from the crowd though, dancing and running from one chapter to the next – fun being had not only by those so tall.
