Brisbane Open House

Approximately 90 buildings in Brisbane will be opening their doors to locals and visitors in celebration of Brisbane Open House 2014.

Those who have been anxious to take a glimpse inside of Brisbane’s many historical and architecturally designed buildings and landmarks will be able to knock on their favourite doors on October 11 – 12 as the central business district, South Bank, Fortitude Valley, Spring Hill, Bowen Hills and surrounding suburbs welcome in the crowds.

The iconic Queensland Performing Arts Centre is amongst the collection of Open House displays, offering guests complimentary guided backstage tours and self-guided foyer tours in addition to the usual performances and exhibitions in-house.

The highlight will be the exciting behind-the-scenes tours (25 people per tour). Curious theatre goers will have guided access to all four of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s theatres including the famous Lyric Theatre that has hosted international hits such as The Lion King, The King and I and Rocky Horror Show.

The XXXX Brewery in Milton will also be opening its doors for anybody who would like a sneaky look on the inside. The brewhouse will allow visitors to uncover how the brew got its name, the story of beer and special insights into its 135 year history all before settling in with a cool and refreshing XXXX bitter.

Additional buildings include the stunning Albert Street Uniting Church, Brisbane Polo Club, Old Government House, ABC Brisbane Centre and the GABBA Stadium.

For those who wish to leave the shortlist to the professionals, Brisbane Open House offers free guided tours led by insiders, architects, urban planners, historians and industry leaders, allowing guests to walk from one intriguing site to another with additional expert knowledge.

Brisbane Open Day 2014 invites locals and visitors to take hold of the once-a-year opportunity to explore the greatest iconic buildings, organisations and treasures that the river city has to offer.
