Cirque Du Soleil TOTEM Coming to Brisbane!

Cirque Du Soleil’s long-awaited theatrical display, TOTEM, will be hitting the stage in April at Northshore Hamilton.

With the name itself reflecting the order of all species and their relevance to the human body, TOTEM will take the audience on a journey into the evolution of mankind from an amphibian state and beyond.

TOTEM will use special effects, contortions and incredible transformations of the body to form a series of animal-like positions, illustrating how humanity share the earth with other species.

Written and Directed by world-renown Director Robert Lepage, in collaboration with Cirque Du Soleil, TOTEM will act out the questions of life as the production draws connections with the Neanderthals, Cro-Magnons, primates and men in suits.

Scenes will feature static and dynamic shapes formed by an Amerindian artist’s hoop dancing to form rituals of the circle of life as well as scientific manipulation to illustrate planets or molecules in a spiral orbit and performers showing movements of flight, balance and strength while using Russian bars, which has been inspired by the lost civilisation of South Africa.

The production consists of an immense cast including 64 technicians and employees from 7 countries, including Australia.

Meanwhile, the 46 cast members themselves have been hand picked to include mesmerising acrobats, actors, talented musicians and incredible singers that will amaze the residents of Brisbane.

Cirque Du Soleil’s TOTEM is set to create a dramatic realm of colour, vibrancy and astounding and artistic displays with a ‘wow factor’ that will ensure a full house for opening night.
