Hit production Legends, now showing at QPAC Playhouse, will bring memories flooding back for those who first watched the young Hayley Mills in the classic The Parent Trap.

I remember as a young child my mother going into raptures about Hayley Mills on the silver screen.

It is not supposing that the much loved child actor Hayley and her elder sister Juliet gained an early step into the movie industry as daughters of the celebrated actor Sir John Mills and their playwright mother Mary Hayley Bell.

The two sisters have had acting careers of over 130 combined years.

Haley’s performances have included six Disney movies, including the classic Pollyanna (1960) for which she won an Academy Juvenile Award. Her best known performance was when playing duel roles of twins Susan and Sharon in The Parent Trap (1961).

Juliet has received both Golden Globe and Emmy Awards for her performances in Avant (1972) and the mini series QB VII respectively.

The two sisters careers have gone from Hollywood movies to TV serials and dramas and are now delighting Brisbane audiences with their live performance in the comedy Legends.

Legends is a delightful comedy about two rival movie stars Leatrice Monsee (Hayley Mills) and Sylvia Glenn (Juliet Mills) who, now entering their ‘mature’ years are facing the prospect of diminishing careers and finances.

Putting on appearances, and few orchestrated arrangements helped along by theatre producer Martin Klemmer (Maxwell Caulfield), the one set play delivers sparky banter.

The sisters work beautifully together and the witty conversations make sparks fly in a way that only sisters can do.

The sexy appearance by Boom Boom (David Denis) and talented performance by Leah Howard, who takes on the role of the delightful housekeeper Aretha, makes for an entertaining night out and leaves the audience inspired by the longevity of a child star who has gone on to have an acting career that spans over 65 years.

The play, by Pulitzer prize winner James Kirkwood, is sure to entertain Brisbane audiences with a chance to have a live theatre experience with one of the most adored actresses of the 1960’s.
