For unmotivated stoner Mike Howell, life is simple: Wake up, get high, sleep, repeat. What Mike doesn’t know is that he has a secret, deadly past, and it’s about to come back to haunt him.
American Ultra is a 2015 action-comedy film starring Jesse Eisenburg (Mike) and Kirsten Stewart.
The young couple live in a small, sleepy town in West Virginia, where Mike works as a convenience store clerk.
When he is attacked during a late-night shift, Mike reacts in a surprising way: by stabbing the perpetrators in the neck with a spoon.
Horrified, Mike calls his girlfriend, Phoebe (Stewart) who arrives just before the pair are arrested for the apparent murders.
At the police station, the couple are again attacked, and again Mike responds with lightning-quick reflexes and unbelievable strength.
The events that follow see the couple thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation.
Unbeknownst to him, Mike is actually a highly-trained killing machine who once worked for the CIA. The agency, who called for his termination, are now hunting him down.
However, unbeknownst to them, Mike’s latent skills have been activated, turning the hapless slacker into a deadly weapon who isn’t about to go down without a fight.
American Ultra was directed by Nina Nourizadeh and written by Max Landis. It also features the talents of Topher Grace, Connie Britton, Waltor Goggins, John Leguizamo, Bill Pullman and Tony Hale.
The film is a must-see for action hero die-hards. It’s witty dialogue and twisty charm is guaranteed to keep you both laughing and on the edge of your seat.
