QSO Plays Bolero at QPAC’s Concert Hall

On Saturday night, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra ended it’s two-day concert series with thunderous applause.

The finale of QSO Plays Bolero boasted talent and musical artistry, featuring internationally acclaimed conductor Fabien Gabel, and the 22 year-old Italian pianist, Beatrice Rana.

The program mostly consisted the works of Ravel, namely the infamously intricate Alborada del gracioso and of course, the Bolero, which has featured in many films over the decades.

However, the concert began majestically with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 in F Major, and was quickly contrasted with Ravel’s amusingly Spanish Rhapsodie espagnole, portraying nocturnally light tones.

The star of the show was undoubtedly the young and extraordinary pianist Beatrice Rana, who’s technical brilliance has been hailed internationally.

Declared by Gramophone Magazine as “…an old soul that belies her twenty years, and more than a tough of genius”, Rana has recently won Silver and the Audience Award at the Van Cliburn competition, and frequently appears as a guest of prestigious orchestras in Europe and the United States.

Guest conductor Fabien Gabel also showcased his talents, and the flawless work he has done with the QSO was undoubtedly displayed in last night’s finale.

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra will perform it’s 2015 season finale on November 28, with guest violin-extraordinaire Maxim Vengerov.
