Best date movies 2016

2016 is full of great date opportunities at the movies this year! Here’s our list of top date picks for you and your love interest.

1. Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice

In the Follow up from Man of Steel, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) suits up as Batman to take on Superman (Henry Cavill) who he believe needs to be held accountable for his actions.

The two will eventually have to put aside their differences and work together to stop evil millionaire genius Lex Luther (Jesse Eisenberg) from destroying Metropolis.

Amy Adams will play Lois Lane and new comer Gal Gadot will make an appearance as Wonder Woman.

Why should you see it

Super hero movies are the “it” thing at the moment and if DC wants to compete with the massive success of the marvel movie franchise, it is going to have start to pulling out all the stops.

Man of the moment, Ben Affleck is never one to disappoint, and Jesse Eisenberg makes for a great psychopath. The justice ledge is assembling and it’s going to be BIG.

2. Captain America: Civil War

While we’re on the topic of superhero face-offs why not throw in this one. Captain America Vs Iron Man.

In Captain American: Civil War, An Avengers mission leaves Collateral damage that forces the government to consider creating a board that oversees and supervises the actions of all superheroes.

Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America (Chris Evans) believes that superheroes should be left to defend humanity without government interference while his once Ally, Tony Stark AKA Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) believes in a system of accountability.

The disagreement creates a rift between the Avenges and the heroes begin to take sides, the Civil War is underway.

Why you should see it

This is not just any superhero movie. Civil War is the most popular “event” in the Marvel universe to date, eventually this story line will eventually lead to a showdown that involves nearly every superhero in entire Marvel Universe (it’s going to be one expensive film).

This movie is where it all kicks off. Expect an all star cast, huge budget action scenes, and plenty of Robert Downey Jr’s signature snappy one liners.

3. Finding Dory

Moving away from the Superhero action movies for a moment, for one of the most highly anticipated Disney Pixar films since Toy Story 3.

In ‘Finding Nemo’, Dory helped Maline find his son Nemo, now it’s time for Dory to find her own family.

Why you should see it:

Finding Nemo is one of Disney’s most loved films. The character of Dory, the amnesiac blue tang, is a standout not only in the film, but in Disney’s history.

She’ll be brought back to life in this upcoming sequel by the lively and loveable Ellen Degeneres. This movie, 13 years in the making, is going to be worth the wait.

4. Deadpool *only for those with a mutual interest in this film!

And we’re back to the Superheroes. In Deadpool, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) in a effort to cure his cancer, is subjected to an experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, disfigured skin, and an unstable mind.

Armed with new abilities and a new identity, Wilson hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Why you should see it:

After playing Deadpool in the 2012 movie X-men Origins: Wolverine, it was Ryan Reynolds himself who pushed for Deadpool to have a movie of his own, and thanks to his recent A-list statues, he eventually got his wish.

In the comic books, Deadpool is said to be the smartest character in the entire Marvel universe.

He is so smart in fact that he is aware that he is a Superhero in a comic book series and often refers to himself as a fictional character.

It is this breaking of the third wall that makes this series so unique and has earned Deadpool a cult following. Ryan Reynolds is said to have well and truly thrown himself into this character, determined to make the original comic books fan base proud.

The movie has earned itself an R18 rating, so expect plenty of violence and bad language and wicked black humour. It’s not for the light hearted, but promises to be a lot of fun for those who can handle it.

5. Ghostbusters

Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and Abby Yates (Melissa McCathy) write a book that proposes the existence of ghosts.

When the book resurfaces years later, Erin is a laughing stock and loses her job at Columbia University.

Her revenge comes when ghosts try to take over New York and Erin, Abby and two other ghost wranglers (Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones), team up to save the city.

Why you should see it:

It’s 30 years since the original cult hit ‘Ghostbusters’ was released.

It’s 2016, times have changed and this movie represents that. In a bold move by director Paul Feig, the lead roles will be played by an all female cast.

While this reboot may look a little far from the original films, McCathy, Wiig, Jones and McKinnon earned their funny stripes on SNL just as the cast from the original movie did.

These are some of the funniest up and coming comedians in the business, and this movie is sure to get some serious laughs.

Bonus points for reported Bill Murray cameo, because who doesn’t love Bill Murray.

6. The Jungle Book

Based on the classic novel by Rudyard Kipling, Mowgli is a human boy who is raised in the Jungle by a pack of wolves, a bear, and a black panther.

Why you should see it:

This movie is Disney at it’s best. Take a classic and much loved story, add a stella cast, including Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Christopher Walken and Lupita Nyong’o, then throw in some beautiful cinematography, a bunch of action, and Voila! You’ve got yourself an epic movie for the whole family to enjoy.
