Presented by Queensland Theatre Company, Bastard Territory is a co-production from Cairns-based JUTE Theatre Company, Darwin-based Browns Mart and Knock-em-Down Theatre.
It’s 2001, and PNG born Russell and his boyfriend have transformed Russell’s childhood home in Darwin into The Tectonic Plate – a art gallery cafe by day, queer cabaret show by night.
Truths are uncovered igniting a new fire within Russel to find out who his biological father is. He takes the audience along for the journey through his memories where they meet and assess each possible candidate.
The show is passionate, funny and vividly perceptive work about family and identity expertly woven together with wit and wisdom.
The story resonates on a personal level and, more broadly, as a political commentary on a pivotal period in Australia’s history.
A fantastic play with great storytelling and a powerful ensemble of actors.
