Soumah Wines comes to Tank Bar and Laneway Dining 

Brisbane’s charming laneway restaurant in the legal precinct, Tank Bar & Laneway Dining, hosted a sophisticated winemakers dinner with fabulous food and good company.

With a floor to ceiling glass wine cellar on show, Tank Bar & Laneway Dining are known for pairing national and international awarded wines with Head Chef Tyrone Bramley’s modern seasonal menu.

Tyrone regularly travels through South East Asia, Northern America and Europe to source inspiration and discover unique flavours. The inspiration can be found in the contemporary dishes that are complimented by complex and rounded wines.

Their most recent winemaker evening welcomed boutique Soumah Winery, with grapes from the foothills of the Yarra Valley.

The four course dinner allowed guests to mingle in the private dining room with Soumah Wine’s Vigneron over a late ripening 2015 Single Vineyard Savarro, boasting subliminal spice and paired with beef tartare and pumpkin tart.

As guests took their seats on communal and private candle-lit tables, the kitchen assembled 12 hour beetroot cured ocean trout with a colour that resembled a pacific sunset.

Glasses were topped with a double trophy winning 2013 Single Vineyard Chardonnay with depth and finesse, and a more recent 2015 vintage.

Diners were invited to share their personal opinions and tasting notes on each wine while learning of the wine’s origins and the wine-making process that allowed Soumah to achieve 4 & ½ stars in the 2016 James Halliday Wine Companion.

A generous dish for the main course highlighted local autumn and winter flavours. A confit duck sat elegantly on a bed of green puy lentils with vibrant pomegranate. The spices mellowed the complexities of the punchy 2015 Single Vineyard (Blue Stone) Pinot Noir, boasting notes of cherry and raspberry that dance around the tongue.

Together with Soumah Wines, Tank Bar and Laneway Dining delivered a generous dinner with intense and fragrant tasting notes from the wine to the food.
