Witches Falls Winery is a small boutique winery with a big passion for growing, creating and drinking some of Queensland’s top shelf reds and whites.
Owner and winemaker of Witches Falls, Jon Heslop, has been hands on in the trade since 1995. He worked at wineries in South Australia and New South Wales before establishing his own business in Mount Tamborine.
Opening Witches Falls in 2004, Jon and his wife Kim grew and harvested grapes in Mount Tamborine and the Granite Belt, taking advantage of both the sunshine and the cooler weather to produce pungent single varietal wines.
The owners welcome locals and visitors onto their Mount Tamborine estate, where guests can lounge on the giant bean bags amid the vines, picnic on the tables and taste the light to rich selection of wines.
A stand out wine is the 2015 Wild Ferment Viognier, with rich and golden notes of apricot and honey, and zing of lemon.
The complex white wine grape variety has become a popular drop nationwide due to its richness perfumed aromas.
Another full-bodied Witches Falls wine is the 2015 Wild Ferment Garnacha. Using a red grape variety that ripens late, the garnacha thrives on hot and dry conditions, allowing Queensland winemakers to produce some of the best in the country.
The variety can often be found in Spain and California with its similar dry and hot conditions.
On the contrary, Witches Falls takes full advantage of the cool climate in the Granite Belt for the likes of the 2014 Wild Ferment Pinot Noir. The tightly held bunches and thin-skins on the grapes (and low levels of phenolic compounds) usually allows winemakers to produce lightly colored and medium bodied pinot’s.
As one would hope for, the 2014 Wild Ferment Pinot Noir denotes light berries and cloves. This particular bottle was matured in new and used French Oak barriques for 12 months.
Witches Falls Winery produces a range of top quality reds and whites for every occasion.
