Enchanted Forest brings the Arcade to life

Spring has sprung and Brisbane Arcade’s The Enchanted Forest is at the top of our garden list.

As part of the third annual Spring Flower Show, the forest kicked off on September 1st.

The opening evening hosted the first Brisbane Arcade Spring Collection Runway Show complete with models walking around a tree seemingly and spontaneously having grown out of the pavement of the Queen Street Mall.

Post-show, guests were be treated to cocktails and canapes among the thousands of blooms and greens renting the Arcade until September 7th.

The Arcade’s temperature is kept below average to keep the flowers fresh, but a visitor can hardly complain when they walk through the entry arbours.

Designed by Fig Flowers in Kenmore, over 100 hours of manpower went into installing roses, snapdragons, daisies and orchids, some grown locally and others being imported specially from overseas.

Installations include a large bunny rabbit crafted out of moss and a weeping willow brimming with orchids, appropriately named the Magical Faraway Tree.

The Brookfield Garden Centre made their contribution with the potted arrangements along the corridor.

Retailers were in keeping with the spring theme. Some jewellers nestled diamond baubles and precious stones on fake moss in display cases while Darb Bridal Couture had a lovely princess gown with lace flowers dotted around the corset in their window display.

The blooms even made their way into the display cases which show off what the stores have on offer.

How can you resist a necklace when it is sitting pretty among the leaves?

In case one was wondering, here are some numbers on how much it takes to bring the Enchanted Forest to life; 800 branches of willow, five species of orchids, 160 plus kilograms of moss, 300 branches of various blossoms and then hundreds of bunches of daisies, carnations, irises, lilies and much more.

“Months and months of preparation and logistical management and planning goes into each Spring Flower Show and this year’s theme, ‘The Enchanted Forest’ has taken inspiration from some of the best international floral art shows and installations.” says Arcade Manager, Andra Bite.

Entering the Brisbane Arcade during the Spring Flower Show is a delight to the senses. With the show only running until September 7th, you will just have to blink before you realize it has gone…
