Welcoming Christmas with The Nutcracker by Queensland Ballet

It begins to look a lot like Christmas as Queensland Ballet graces the stage with their annual sell out performance The Nutcracker.

The festive number was seen by an excited crowd of young girls in pink tutu’s and tight ballerina buns, grandparents in cream Chanel inspired two piece sets and a true gentlemen’s suit, and young couples in love, at Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s Lyric Theatre.

The performance opened with the wit and charm that is known to Queensland Ballet before leading into everybody’s favourite Christmas Eve scene with a floor to ceiling Christmas tree, tightly wrapped gifts and a captivating family affair.

As the party comes to an end and all are tucked into bed, leading girl Clara steps into a fantasy land.

The clock that strikes at midnight awakens an army of mice, the Nutcracker himself and a cast of beautiful swans and sugar plum fairies in fairytale costumes by Desmond Heeley.

Whistles were heard from the crowd as the Russian dance took to the stage, followed by a grand pas de deux by the stunning sugar plum fairy and the Nutcracker prince.

The Nutcracker by Queensland Ballet is a brilliant performance and the perfect way to bring in Christmas.
