Queensland Ballet, West Australian Ballet and Royal Winnipeg Ballet co-present a captivating love story La Bayadère.
Set in the 19th century British Raj, Solor (son of the Maharajah of Cooch Behar) believes he has it all with a stunning kingdom and a beautiful temple dancer, Nikiya, whom he just pledged his love to.
However his father, Maharajah of Cooch Behar, had a different life set out for Solor.
In one night Solor’s life turned upside down with a forced engagement as a symbol of peace between two worlds at a lavish party and a tragedy involving his true beloved.
The performance is executed brilliantly with dramatic choreography by Greg Horsman.
Gary Harris’ costumes are divine. He paired beautiful ballerina’s in equally amazing white tutu’s that sport love hearts as they flutter, bedazzling crowns for royalty and rich purples, reds and golds.
The accompanying music by Queensland Symphony Orchestra was breathtaking and added layers to the drama and enchantment of La Bayadère.
La Bayadère is a co-production between Queensland Ballet, West Australian Ballet and Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
