The big gender reveal and why we loved professionals capturing every moment

You’ve all seen on socials that Brisbane Weekender’s big boss Katherine and her hubby Dave threw an outdoor gender reveal party – jumping on that ‘for her and him’ trend!

Scattered in the event space were mixed whites, natural wood and the tiniest pop of gold, pink and blue.

Fresh flowers brightened up 16 seater trestle tables.

White sheets with natural palettes created picnic corners and old school finska and ring toss games were played across the lawn with rose wine and elderflower lemonade in hand.

With baby-to-be at about 25 weeks, this was the perfect opportunity to share precious moments with family and friends and get some good chats in with everyone before getting too big to properly move about.

With 60 adults, kids and little bubs the couple were thrilled to find their perfect professional photographer and videographer to capture the surprised faces during the big balloon pop under a large shade tree.

Photographer

The parents to be carefully chose Dee from Deezigner Images because her sole purpose for photography is to leave the couple feeling happy and she has a true passion for photographing weddings, engagements, baby showers and events.

The couple loved having Dee around as it freed them up to spend more time talking with their guests than pulling out iPhone’s. It also meant the uncles weren’t given that pressure of ‘don’t miss that moment when the confetti sprinkles out’ and they could enjoy the surprise with everyone else.

One of the bonuses of having Dee around is that she whisked the couple away to give them some quiet time in the nursery to soak it all in as she captured a few cuddles and laughs with the pre-popped gender reveal balloon. The couple can remember those moments and feel grateful they had a little time together to feel how real it was all becoming, especially when looking over those perfect professional prints.

Dee made sure to capture the couple mingling with guests and cute moments like a one year old boy giving a girl a pink flower, couples writing sweet messages on onesies and big embraces after the big reveal.

The guests received a few treats too with Dee taking stunning family portraits amongst the shade trees as a keepsake from the day.

Videographer

Capturing the confetti balloon gender reveal was in the hands of the sweetest Rebecca behind RS Creative.

Rebecca filmed all the right moments from their beloved pooch in a pink flower collar to the excited ‘don’t keep me waiting any longer’ faces in the crowd, the hugs and tears andthe ‘I can’t believe I guessed the gender correctly’ expressions.

She moved quietly around the crowd with her camera equipment capturing the laughter, the tears and special moments amongst guests throughout the day.

The filtered natural light streamed in beautifully with slowed moments like hugs and kisses after the confetti was revealed. The close ups and wide pans worked perfectly with her focusing.

The teaser video was beautifully produced, showing a lovely mix of family, friends and the couple. Rebecca used a few of the couple’s props like the wonderland flower wall and the onesie station before leading into the reveal, and finishing with claps and congratulatory moments from all.

Watch the video on insta – so cute!

Ps. It’s a BOY ;)!
