Finding my princess moment at Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise

Maybe I’ve been watching too much Gossip Girl (five seasons!) where Blaire is crowed a princess but I was determined to get my own ocean princess moment on the Gold Coast this Spring – and Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise was just the place (maybe a little for it’s name ;p).

Taking every opportunity for a coastal holiday, my wonderful husband took me where the ‘it girls’ go in their wonderland jumpsuits with their iPhone’s permanently on selfie mode, palm tree lined streets and men and women in suits who greet you with a smile, open doors and hold elevators for you.

After the concierge took our bags smoothly from our 4WD boot to the silver hotel birdcage trolley we were handed a swipe card to one of their 370 rooms – a king superior ocean view room with a private furnished balcony where golden sunrises can be seen over the ocean by early risers.

We hung our suit and ocean blue silk dress elegantly in the closet space (hey I’d have polished a tiara should I have one) when the in-room phone rung with an invitation to wine and dine pool-side at Relish Grill & Bar.

I pulled an ivory lace dress and turquoise ring from my case and between us we devoured rockfeller oysters, lamb rack with Brussel sprouts, prawn linguini and ice cream filled profiteroles with rich hot chocolate sauce.

We roamed around the swimming pools in big straw hats and with the provided pool noodles while our rolled guest towels reserved on our favourite lounges with that perfect sun/shade ratio. We were ready to plunge in our new season swimwear, dipping our toes in both.

The hubby and I put on our tennis shoes to brave the large court next to a couple of (what looked like!) pro’s before a sunset walk along the nearby white sandy beach that had been teasing us from our balcony since we checked in.

After a dreamy snooze in the plush king bed at Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise we pulled on the hotel robes and slippers and ordered a lazy and indulgent in-room breakfast – only to be devoured in bed with that sweeping ocean view.

A late midday check out meant we didn’t need to face the world until a beach-side lunch was calling our name.
