Queensland Ballet are winning hearts both young and old with their stunning Christmas production, The Nutcracker.
The word is out that this year’s performances have been outstanding with families and friends excitedly oohing and aahing over this festive tradition at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
Choreographed by Ben Stevenson, this magical story is set at a party at the Stahlbaum home on Christmas eve.
While humorous antics unfold at the party, at midnight audiences are taken into a fantasy world by the young Clara (performed by Mia Heathcote) when her wooden gift from a mysterious visitor, Dr Drosselmeyer (Victor Estevez), turns to life.
The very charming Nutcracker protects Clara from the Rat King and his band of rouge mice.
After winning the battle he turns into a Prince and is as charming as ever.
Audiences easily fall into the enchanted world of the Ice Queen and the Snow Prince while they dance with the Snow Flakes.
The details in the beautiful costumes by Nolene Hill gleamed as Clara and the Prince enter the world of the Kingdom of Sweets on an enchanted sleigh.
The Sugar Plum Fairies arrange for the entertainment of Spanish, Arabian, Chinese and a stunning Russian dance. Meanwhile, the Sugar Plum Fairy and The Prince sweep the audience of their feet with a captivating pas de deux before Clara drifts off to sleep.
This year’s The Nutcracker is made even more memorable by Tchaikovsky’s delightful musical score performed by our very own Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
