Deerys Restaurant is a smokehouse at the end of Brisbane’s historic Story Bridge that boasts a combination of old world charm and a modern flair.
Upon first glance the restaurant exudes the kind of alluring characteristics found in European restaurants that welcome regulars who are on first name basis with the maître d and who always order a signature steak with mashed potatoes and a whisky straight up.
There is a strong sense of warmth from the wooden tables, country farmhouse chairs and the cosy nook against the exposed brick wall.
However splashes of green from the basil and mint on the tables to the lime wing-back chairs mixed with pendant lighting and an open kitchen adds a contemporary elegance, bringing the restaurant into the ‘now.’

When enjoyed with a glass of Woodstock Shiraz from South Australia’s McLaren Vale, the intensity of the Banksia Beef (70 days on grain from Darling Downs) and the dense flavour of the fat is brought out, crucial to draw in any carnivore.
While diners come for the steak, Deerys Restaurant offers a bespoke menu including char grilled local tiger prawns briefly smoked for flavour. Served as an entree, this dish wets the appetite for mains to come.
From the mains, the fish of the day at market price exceeds expectations with a generous serve of sautéed kipfler potatoes, braised fennel, slow roasted tomatoes, black olives and rosemary beurre blanc.
One must not leave Deerys Restaurant without sampling the traditional desserts such as a Parisian inspired apple tart tatin and the rich, dark and ever popular chocolate fondant.
