The Brisbane Rugby 10s delivered fast paced rugby to a sweaty and enthusiastic Brisbane crowd over the almost 40 degree weekend.
Over two thrilling days Suncorp Stadium hosted the tournament to 14 teams from across the globe including NZ, South Africa, Japan, Australia and France.
The 10 minute half format provided no shortage of fast plays and bone crunching action.
Queensland fans were treated to a nail biting quarter final between the Reds and the Chiefs on the final day.
Samu Kerevi scored two QLD tries, leaving fans feeling confident that the homegrown heroes would put an end to the Chiefs run.
However a yellow card in the second half cost the boys players on the field and a seat at the final.
Later in the afternoon NSW and QLDs women’s rugby put on show in a battle which was lost by mere inches.
At 5:15pm on Sunday the sun retreated to bring shade to the field as the Waikato Chiefs and the Canterbury Crusaders took center stage.
Showing brilliance down the sideline and grit from the forwards, the Chiefs proved too strong for their NZ counterparts, claiming a 12-5 win.
The Brisbane Global Rugby 10s tournament treated fans to fast pace plays, hard fought mauls, and the type of technical rugby capable of satisfying even the purest of fans.
Though there was an absence of tears, there was certainly plenty of blood and sweat left on the field, leaving plenty of spectators counting down the days until this new and exciting sporting spectacle comes back to town.
