BBC First British Film Festival 2015

The BBC First British Film Festival is returning to Brisbane with an exciting, breathtaking and romantic program of British films.

The festival will be opened with hit production Youth, a provoking story about two old friends who bond over a shared curiosity of those around them. Starring British actor Michael Caine, the film was nominated for the prestigious Palme d’Or at the 2015 Cannes film festival.

The BBC First British Film Festival is set to excite and delight Brisbane with a century of British romance through films from 1900 to 1990, including 1920’s Women in Love and 1990’s Four Weddings and a Funeral.

From 1910, the festival brings Ryan’s Daughter – an epic romance tale set during World War I and the Easter Rising insurrection of Ireland. The film boats an entertaining scandal in a small town of Ireland and was the winner of Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Cinematography at the 1971 Academy Awards.

Another highlight of the festival is Brooklyn. The story of a small town Irish girl who crosses the rough Irish seas by boat to Brooklyn, New York in hopes of a better life is torn between two lives with very different endings in two very different countries. The film will make Brisbane laugh and cry as they follow the journey of a charming girl in a whirlwind romance.
