WICKED arrives in Brisbane

The latest musical theatre production to hit the stage at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre delivered a deliciously wicked performance with flying monkeys, a witches hat and illuminating broom sticks beneath a puff of smoke from dragons breath.

With a Grammy®, three Tony Awards® and seven Helpmann Awards, WICKED had cast a spell over Brisbane from the moment guests stepped into the bright and wonderful Emerald City.

On it’s 10th anniversary tour, WICKED revealed the untold tale of two unexpected friends and how they grew to lead differing lives, all before Dorothy and Toto took the centre stage on cinema screens. The production turned back the clock to years of high school dramas, first loves and protests against unfair practices with a unique perspective on The Land of Oz.

WICKED illustrated an incredible performance by Jemma Rix as leading role Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Lucy Durack as Glinda the Good.

Painted head to toe in glowing emerald green, Rix aroused audience members as she surrounded all with her magnificent vocal techniques and her ability to hold a note for an incredible length of time.

With music and lyrics by award winning Stephen Schwartz, WICKED received applause after applause with the likes of Defying Gravity, Dancing Through Life and What Is This Feeling?

However it was the orchestra, the scenic, lighting, costume and sound design that greatly contributed to the all encompassing blockbuster spectacular. The contrast between the vibrant and dark and gloomy designs made for a truly dramatic and enchanting production.

Based on the best selling novel by Gregory Maguire, WICKED The Musical tantalised the senses and bewitched the crowd with the incredible talent by the Australian and International cast.
